Leschi, Seattle, WA – March 19, 2018
On a gloomy Monday night, Ray and I were in search of some dinner and stumbled upon Meet the Moon. Meet the Moon is an all-day eatery located in the quaint neighborhood of Leschi. Just a short walk from the western shore of Lake Washington, Meet the Moon seemed like a good spot to spend our Monday night.
Let’s talk about the…
SPACE
Interior – Courtesy of Yelp
The restaurant has a nice airy feel to it with open shelving in the bar and top to bottom windows on the retractable wall. In the summertime/nicer weather, the wall of this restaurant can be easily lifted up for extra seating on the patio and more flow into the restaurant. Overall, it seemed to fit the mark of the staple neighborhood spot that all the locals come to.
SERVICE
With it being a Monday night, the restaurant wasn’t too busy. We were properly attended to along with the other 3-4 tables that were dining that night. No standouts or horrible experiences with the service to report on.
FOOD
Now to the good stuff. Our dinner order that night consisted of one appetizer and two entrees. The three dishes filled us both up nicely. We weren’t overly stuffed but also weren’t still dying for more food.
Let’s talk about the:
- Bacon and Brussels (appetizer): How can you go wrong with crispy brussel sprouts and bacon? Candied pecans lended some extra textural finesse to this starter. The bacon was a maple spiced, braised and cut into thick pieces – “as bacon should be,” says Ray. The dish was mixed with an apple cider gastrique which was a great sauce. The sprouts themselves were perfect, optimally roasted with the perfect crunch. Overall, this was a tasty starter – not overly sweet or candied pecans, interesting mix of textures, and ideally sized bacon bits.
- Duck and dumplings (Alice’s entree): I ordered the duck and dumplings dish as my entree because I’ve never been able to resist two of my top foods when they appear on a menu – duck and dumplings. This seemed like the perfect dish for me – what arrived was not exactly what I expected. The duck and dumplings dish was more of a soup with bread dumplings, duck confit, sweet potatoes, and mushrooms. I don’t remember seeing the dumplings described as bread dumplings – although this may have been a misinterpretation on my end. Nevertheless, I decided to give the entree a shot. The good things – the broth, mushrooms and duck confit hit the spot. It wasn’t really salty and the duck confit bits were especially tasty. The not-so great things – the dumplings were a little too heavy and dense for my tastes and weighed the rest of the dish down. While there was nothing wrong with the sweet potatoes, the extra starch also weighed the dish down. After about one and a half dumplings, I had to stop eating them since it was becoming a more dense meal than I was planning for.
- Tacos del dia (Ray’s entree): Ray ordered the tacos of the day which included black beans, corn, cheese, chicken and some crunchy bits that we unfortunately couldn’t identify. Ray thought the dish was alright and especially liked the crunchy bits but the dish overall was nothing special or to write home about. For $18, Ray received three tacos in a plastic container which didn’t seem to fit with the restaurant’s ambiance.
IN SUMMARY
Meet the Moon is a perfectly quaint and cute little spot in the Leschi neighborhood. While the food was a little overpriced in our opinion, some aspects of the dishes we ordered were tasty and decent. I think we’d be willing to go back and try some other dishes but aren’t rushing to do so anytime soon.
