Pioneer Square, Seattle, WA – June 16, 2018

The London Plane is another hip spot that has always been on my list to try. When a study abroad friend wanted to grab brunch, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to check it out. The London Plane is located in Pioneer Square, Seattle’s original neighborhood. Based on my initial research, it seemed like the place where you could sit down and get some work done with coffee and a pastry, meet up for lunch with coworkers and even stay into the evening hours for a glass of wine (or two) or a cocktail. A place that is versatile enough to serve all types of customers throughout the day is a win in my book so I was ready to dive in.

Let’s talk about the….

SPACE

London Plane is ambiance galore. The space is huge and has the cutest vibe going for it. Floor to ceiling windows and maximum seating with a second level, bar seating, and a small outdoor patio area. Oh – did I mention this place has a flower shop, a small coffeshop with coffee and pastries, a full service bar and goods shop with wine, planters, plants, kitchen towels, and more for purchase in a cute little store space along the back wall? It’s like I died and went to hipster heaven at the London Plane.

SERVICE

Our server was very attentive during our meal. She stopped in periodically to check in on how we were doing and also provided explanations to a few of the dishes we were curious about. Nothing over-the-top or exceptional from the service side. Although, I am a firm believer of just the right amount of attentiveness to make sure you’re being taken care of but not so much that you can barely enjoy your meal. Our waitress was able to strike this balance.

FOOD

Drinks – Emma ordered a harissa bloody mary while I ordered a Manhattan. My Manhattan was good and very strong, while Emma’s drink came pre-made in a bottle you could pour yourself into a glass. Despite being pre-made and mixed, Emma noted that her drink was still good. The pre-made bloody mary definitely fit the cool, hip ambiance London Plane is going for.

Brisket Toast (Alice’s order) – My brisket toast was extremely well seasoned and came with collard greens and a fried egg distributed on two large pieces of toast. The entree was not too heavy considering it was meat and bread and it filled me up nicely. The only disappointment I had from my dish was that the bread was a little tough and hard to cut around the edges. Even though I was provided with a steak knife, I had to exert quite a bit of effort and force to be able to cut through the edges. Otherwise, a great upgrade from the regular toasts at brunch…looking at you avocado.

Granola Yogurt (Emma’s order) – Emma’s yogurt dish was quite large with plenty of Greek yogurt, likely in-house granola, and fruit. From what Emma told me and from the tiny spoonful I tasted, the yogurt was perfectly put together – with just enough crunch with the granola and enough sweetness from the fresh fruit. The serving was so large, Emma didn’t even finish it during our sitting. 

IN SUMMARY

If London Plane is on your list – plan your visit today. My visit did not disappoint and despite the one tiny crux I had with the crunchiness of the toast, all aspects of our meal was perfect. Also, who can resist the cuteness of this establishment with it’s multitasking, flower shop, coffee shop, goods store and restaurant? I’m hoping to be back here very soon for either brunch, a quick coffee stop or perhaps even a catch-up happy hour with a friend.

Space and ambiance – Five stars, cute and charming space in one of Seattle’s oldest neighborhoods.

Food – Tasty and well seasoned, they know what they’re doing.

Service – Perfectly cordial and attentive.

Price – $$$, a little on the pricier/”bougie” side ($25 per person), but worth it for the experience and food.
